Apparently the men of Switzerland are stuck in a 1940s timewarp and, when out and about in town, regularly wear hats.
Good to know.
This blog post was submitted for the weekly gallery over at Sticky Fingers. This week’s theme was “one day in August“. We were tasked with taking a photo anytime on Sunday 29th August 2010.

Love it! Random sign spotting has to be a top hobby away from home
I think the ones in Singapore are probably a little more exciting that the signs we get here but I try
And their children are of an unidentifiable gender.
Well yes, that’s a given. Switzerland is neutral, after all.
I actually really liked those times, when men were gentlemen and wore suits, ties and hats everywhere, and proper shoes. And treated women like ladies.
Ah, there are still some men out there who treat women as they should be. Most of them are already married though
I wear a hat (cap actually) on a daily basis. And I have polished shoes and everything…
Yes but your cap is white and ugly. It’s not a smart bowler. And shiny shoes – that’s a given… us women look at shoes you know.
I look like a U-Boat commander. It has taken 11 years to reach that point, it is not ugly, you just don’t understand!
Are we talking Das Boot?
pretty much, although I shower a lot more than they do!
Very dapper. Although the man has very small feet.
The very stiff triangular shaped dress on the small girl on the sign, reminds me a bit of the old ice cream `Lyons Maid’ sign where three kids were drawn linking hands and holding icecreams/lollies – I always wanted to be the kid in the middle of the three as he got to hold two lollies. *oink*
If the kid in the middle was holding hands with the other two, how did she also manage to hold two lollies – did she have four arms?
Nope .. it was 70s artistic licence, of which there was a lot about. I miss those crazy simple days of youth.
Are they those green hats with the shaving brush bristle sticking out of them?
Don’t know – haven’t seen the Swiss military garb… presume it’s suitably beige though.
