Sleep on it, they said…

…so I did. And I’m still stuck.

I still have no idea what to do.

It’s not a question of whether I will go or not. That’s decided. I’m going.

But for how long?

I’m not the scardey-cat type. I’m not one of those people who shy away from adventure. So why am I erring on the side of caution with this one? Why am I leaning towards and STA?

What’s stopping me just going out there and seeing how it goes? Why do I want this safety blanket of a year?

Today is research day. Let’s have a look online and see how much apartments are out there. Let’s do the figures. Will I be better off on an STA or as a local?

Yes, that’s one way of procrastinating and not actually making a decision.

If you were sure of what you wanted the decision would be easy. You are clearly sitting somewhere in the middle and have a fear of making the wrong decision, whatever you decide. I think the STA gives you the benefit of seeing how you would fare in a foreign situation, with the plus of being able to bolt home if you don’t like it. On the other hand if you do like it, you might get a more permanent extension after a year or move. Emigration at this stage seems too final, if you are not 100% sure.

Last but one sentence should have read…… On the other hand, if you do like it, you might get a more permanent extension after a year or move to an entirely different job altogether out there.

  3. This is no time to be cautious, my dear. True, it could all blow up in the end, but sometimes you just have to take that leap. Otherwise, you’ll always wonder what could have been.

    Go for it Nutty!

  5. If your gut is giving you a feeling, go with that. I’ve tried to ignore my gut feelings before, and it never works out too well for me.
