- Aretha Franklin was wearing a hideous hat
- The song she sang uses the tune of God Save the Queen and just adds different words…copycats
- The John Williams piece of music – does this seem familiar?
- The poet was rubbish. Even Baldrick was better (for more info on this, please ask)
- Despite the fact he had the words read out to him, Obama still couldn’t quite get through his oath
- But blimey, he does make a good speech

@John Williams. I heard that too. Perhaps he thought sticking in a Imperial March or Indiana theme might get noticed.
@Poet. I switched off before that.
@His speech. I have to say, I’m surprised he managed to remember all that I didn’t see him look at a piece of paper once. He must of been using que cards or something?
All that is true but I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Actually, I thought the Williams piece was lifted from “Appalachian Spring” by American compose Aaron Copeland.
Robbie: The words are projected onto the two translucent screens to his immediate left and right.
By the way, the Chief Justice who was reading the oath of office got the words wrong, not President Obama.
Dum dum dum dum de dum dum de dum (that’s every piece of music John Williams ever wrote)

@: The Unbearable Banishment Ah so thats why he kept turning his head
Oh
I was really excited that he wasn’t reading a ‘script’ when The Boy told me… I thought that was aces…
Now it’s all ruined
“Lord of the Dance” stole it first!

(And we’ve been copying God Save the Queen for about 170 years so if you didn’t want it copied, you should have spoken up earlier!)
The “Lord of the Dance” music is sung here as a lovely song which begins “Tis a gift to be simple, ’tis a gift to be true”, and like the “God Save the Queen/My country ’tis of thee” debate – no one has firmly established which lyrics came first. Believe me I’ve done a lot of digging!
And yes, if you ever get the chance to watch the swearing in again, you’ll see Obama stop, then patiently wait for the Chief Justice to get it right. It was the Chief Justice’s first time swearing in a Prez and he was very nervous. Can you imagine being the person that screwed up Obama’s swearing in? Luckily, Obama can’t fire him.
“tis a gift to be free” rather.
On points 1, 2, and 6 … I couldn’t agree more!!
Robbie – if you’re impressed by Obama, you should see David Cameron speak. An hour long speech last year, no notes, no cue, nothing. V impressive
UB – Patriotic to the last
LizSara – glad I’m not the only one who has a Blackadder fetish!
Pinkjellybaby – shh, just pretend you never read UB’s comment.
Srah – no one asked me 170 years ago.
Expat Mum – Yes, he will forever be known as that guy who messed up.
