One of things that amuses me about the road in Kenya (aside from the driving which is enough to turn your hair white in a hundred metres – see below) is the signs signifying that there might be pedestrians crossing the road.
In the UK, a rather stern looking man strides with purpose. In Kenya, he ambles along with a hat on at a slightly jaunty angle, something he certainly wouldn’t be doing if he wanted to cross in any form of safety.
The driving in Kenya is something to behold.
With no regard for either rules of the road or etiquette, it really is each man for themselves.
Matatus, impatient to get to their next stop, will simply make themselves a new road should the traffic not be going quickly enough.
Lorries, bored of staying the left hand lane, swerve over to the overtaking lane, taking their hitchhikers with them.

To drive in Kenya you really do need eyes in the back, side, top and possibly even bottom of your head.
I have a phobia of being driven in foreign countries without proper roads…but i don’t think i could ever bring myself to drive myself in one either!
welcome home btw

holey moley!
LizSara – you’re scared of foreign roads? But they’re the funnest.
Deutlich – Holey Moley indeed. It certainly makes long journeys fun though
I don’t know, I Have to say, those photos look like they could of been taken in central London….except there isn’t enough traffic
And the roads are slightly better in central London!
