Book worm II

Thank you all for your many many suggestions on what I should take with me on holiday.

I realise that there are a hell of a lot of books in the “to read when I get back list” but I’m (eventually) going to read everything you’ve put down there. Promise.

I think, in the end, as with all these things, I’ve probably plumped for books I might have picked up anyway. However, I’m still grateful for the suggestions. Some of the new authors I’ve found (sitting in the “I’ll read later” or “If I can find them” pile) might spawn a new love. Some of the books in the “I’m going to read them even if it kills me” will hopefully make me appreciate new types of writing. I’m firmly in the belief that if you stick to one type of book your whole life you’re not going to be able to fully appreciate the wonder of reading. And I realise that sounds incredibly pretentious but so what, it’s my blog, I’m allowed to be pretentious :)

Thank you again. As I mentioned at the bottom of the last post, you’ll be very well looked after while I’m away, so please come back every now and again to see what they’re blathering on about.

I will see you when I get back and make you all green with envy at my fabulous tan! (can cows get suntan?)

being truthful, if you don’t like Dan Brow, don’t buy Harlen Coben. Predictable, badly premised ridiculousness, in my ever so humble opinion of course!

    Your comment is noted :)

I don’t like people who can’t write English. Harlen (weird name but meh, I can get over it) seemed to have a good outline for a story… although of course there was no blimmin’ extract.

If his writing’s rubbish then I won’t buy.

Prepare to cry your eyes out over the Time Traveller’s Wife…

  4. Hannah says:

Hmm. I don’t want to be held responsible for your thinking that reading Piers will make you a more rounded individual. It will make you raise an eyebrow, though.

Glad you’ve picked the TT’s wife: it’s lovely. You WILL fall in love with Henry, and you will cry. Just a given.

What a great list, too: I’m going to take a leaf out of your book (no related puns intended) and start reading novels again, now finals are done!

Humph, I must be rubbish then if I find Harlan Coben unpredictable. I suppose after the first one you read you can kind of see where he’s going, but I would say they’re definitely worth a go.

  6. nuttycow says:

red, Hannah – I don’t want to cry :( Oh, go on then.

teabelly – it’s all horses for courses my love. Some people find Jilly Cooper predictable. I don’t care :D

I need to head to the bookstore myself. I reeeally need some new reading material. I just.. can’t quite figure out what I want to read.

TTWife is far better than I thought it would be – and the weird timing thing sort of works. Harlan C Tell No One is good beachy stuff but you’ll only need to read one of his. Dan Brown – pants. Rose Tremain’s Music and Silence is a cracker and The Secret River by Kate Grenville. Enjoy your trip!

  9. MJ says:

Terry Pratchett will make you more rounded from all the rolling on the floor laughing ;) have fun with it! And as for Neverwhere…best book I’ve read in ages! Hated getting to the last page!
