Mirror, mirror

This is what I really look like, honestlyFollowing Ms Anxiety’s post the other day, I have been thinking (but not a lot – I don’t want to tire myself out) about blogs and people and visitors and readers.

It occurs to me that no one in the “real” world knows I write this and that very few people reading this really “know” me. So how do I come across?

Does my writing give me a certain “look”? Am I brunette? Blond? A sultry redhead? Am I tall? Short? Do I have one leg? Three eyes? Webbed fingers?

I have notions of what other people look like through their writing. Some are probably completely wrong. Some are completely right, due to the fact that “they” have handily put up photos to help me along. Sorry to disappoint but I don’t think I’d ever be so brave to put up a photo of myself on the blog. Not only am I the most unphotogenic woman ever to walk the earth but I think it would probably take a little mystery out of things. It’s like books which are made into films. When you read a book, you have an idea of what the characters look like. Then they make the book into a film and all your illusions are shattered.

In other news, I’m spending far too much of my time planning our next trip out to Kenya. Despite the fact I have no money. At all. Ne’er mind.

PS Hoorah! It’s not just me who’s having difficulties finding things to write about :)

I am FAR more unphotogenic than you are. At least I console myself that it is mere unphotogenic-ness. And true, the thought of my real friends knowing about all this, and reading it!!! Aaargh.

  2. Milla says:

oh, and ps, with regard to yours on mine – I already have some well bizarre people visiting, what on earth difference is a little sand and bombs going to make?

  3. LizSara says:

As one of the people who helpfully did put a picture of themselves up i can quite categorically say i don’t think i look anything like the pictures of me.

I have 2 friends that read my blog, but no-one else who knows me…and i don’t tell people i know about it either. if they find it on their own then fine but i’m keeping stchum.

i’m not sure i had a notion about what you look like…or any other bloggers i read actually. I don’t imagine people when i read them unless they are intentionally fictional characters.

    Hmmm now i’m thinking though

you’re a cow aren’t you, with black and white markings, and a bit nutty?

  5. nuttycow says:

Milla – sadly for me, it’s not just unphotogenicness. Sad but true. Apparently, having mop hair and bad shoes just isn’t attractive anymore

LizSara – what have you come up with?

Peach – full marks to you :) I was just testing the others to see if they’d been paying attention!

  6. Deutlich says:

I think that’s my favorite part of blog-land – so many folks are anonymous and it’s like, “hmm…”

Curiosity makes things more fun. Haha.

  7. ExpatKat says:

Well, I’m tagging you so now you’ve got something to write about! (no pressure though)

Nutty – beauty comes from within. That’s the one thing about writing, it captures someones true beauty in a way a photo never can.

  8. red says:

I’ll never be able to show my real face- Major has hyped me up way out of proportion…oh well.

  9. nuttycow says:

Deutlich – hello :) It is weird to think that the people you read everyday might actually be someone you know. I am sure that I know the writer of ExPat Wives Club (http://africaexpatwivesclub.blogspot.com)

ExPatKat – thanks for the tag… I’ll have a think about it today and get something up soonest. As for your beauty comment… that may be true for some people ;)

Red – shush now. You know you’re wrong. Accept it and move on :D

  10. Jo says:

I’m not really one for showing pics of myself either. I quite like not knowing what people look like. Anyway, even if I did put up a pic of myself, it wouldn’t look like me coz I’d make it all flattering, black & white, sultry n crap…no one ever puts a pic up of what they REALLY look like. Only edited versions.

  11. nuttycow says:

So cynical Jo! Maybe you’re right. Anyway, I plan to keep my black and white spots to myself. No pictures for any of you lot.
