When I grow up…

me in a couple of years... probably

Welcome to the new blog ladies and gents. I don’t know if I should have moved but hey, a change is as good as a rest (or something) and besides, I like having cows in my header!

Now, as I may have hinted, it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and very nice it was too, thank you for asking.

Now that the hands of time are creeping forward ever faster I thought it was about time I revisited my “list of things I need to get done before I’m 30″.

So here it is, the list of things I want to do before I put on my slippers, chomp on a Wurthers Original and start talking to pot plants:

  1. Actually go through with the planned “let’s drive from South Africa to Kenya” trip. Me, the boy and two close friends on the open road in the middle of nowhere. Bliss. It’s a bit on the hold at the moment – one of the friends is off towards fame and fortune as shooter. And no, not in a murder way, in a “at targets” way.
  2. Be trusted enough for someone to ask me to be their child’s godmother. I reckon I’d be fab. I’d take them out shopping. I’d teach them the finer points of rugby and I’d be the “cool” one that they’d want to visit. I’m sure I would. Maybe.
  3. Have achieved enough in my career to just stop and not feel guilty about it. I can’t see myself as a career woman. Don’t get me wrong, I love working but I just sometimes think I’m destined to be a lady who lunches.
  4. Up sticks and move away from London. London may be the place of bright lights but, for me, that’s the problem.

My list is looking a little sad and short isn’t it? Maybe that’s a good thing. I don’t think it does me good to plan so much. I then get annoyed with myself when things don’t go the way I want.

  1. Nice blog. Good effort. Nice cows. Link just about to be updated at Womble On Tour…

Nice new blog – I like it. I would add “learn to chill a bit” to your list. Coming from a 40-something bird I know that will irritate the hell out of you but your list sounds like mine when I lived and worked in London. I’ve learned that although you should have things you want to do (like the Africa trip) there will be things that come from “out of left field” as they say here, totally screw up your plans and make you have to rethink a few things. So you might as well concentrate on having a good time too!

Thanks WOT… just felt it was time to try something new… so I have :) Hoorah!

Hello expatmum – I think you’re right (about the chilling out) and it doesn’t irritate me that your list sounded the same… it’s nice to know I’m not alone.

    Hi there -

Love the new blog! The cows look great especially…..not too happy about your comments suggesting that post-30 year olds wear slippers! What’s wrong with my Bata flipflops? (leather-effect, not rubber…well, maybe they are rubber but they look leathery…well, they did when I bought them…quite frankly who can complain what they look like when they only cost 150 bob? My husband might try complaining but his pair are even worse – they look like PLASTIC…and they only cost 75 bob (cheapskate).
Anyway, I stray off the point, I am 34 and am yet to be a godmother too…perhaps people don’t fully trust us lot who were brought up in far-off lands!
Will be popping back for a chew on the ud every now and then…..
    Take care,
    Tanya x

    Hello Tanya –

Thanks for dropping by. I love bata flipflops (although I have to admit, I have a bit of penchant for safari boots) and there’s nothing wrong with the 75 bob plastic ones – what more do you need?!

I think it’s shocking people don’t trust us to be godmothers. We’re both lovely, likable people. Never been in trouble in our life etc ;)

    Have a good weekend.

I’m the one in the centre at the front of course Rob… a natural showoff :)
