Richard Leakey and friends over at Wildlife Direct have highlighted the problems facing the Mara due to the recent troubles in Kenya. The massive decline in tourists means that the management of the Mara are facing financial difficulties. As a result, it’s looking like they won’t be able to pay for the important things that keep the park what it is (such as poacher patrols, fire breaks etc).
If you do one good thing today, let it be donating $10 (£5) to this cause.

You’re so right, NC, a hugely worthwhile cause. My heart goes out to them.
Good for you for keeping our consciousness on this.

Thanks WOT – you may have noticed I have a bit of Kenyan bias but hey, I make no apologies
You’re online late tonight.
NC, just seen the news today about a coalition government

…let’s hope it gives Kenya a chance to draw a line under everything that’s gone on in the last three months.
Yes WOT, I saw that. It’s great news. I spoke to my mother and she said that the staff were dancing round the garden in joy! There are a number of questions which will be raised about the coalition (which I will blog about at a later point) but I think that it’s a real starting point.
